NC VIRTUAL
SCIENCE RESEARCH WORKSHOPS

Empowering Young Scientists

Last year, a group of high school student researchers decided to organize science workshops for elementary students to increase student participation in research. After incredible interest and participation in our workshops last summer, we have decided to organize virtual workshops again this year. We hope you participate in our workshops and enjoy your experience with us!

THE PROGRAM

Please note: There will be separate sessions for beginners and for intermediate or advanced students. We will also be offering morning and afternoon sessions for each workshop. All classes will take place on Zoom.

JUNE 21 - INTRO TO RESEARCHING

In this workshop, students will learn how to find a reliable source, as well as how to take notes while researching in order to get a good background on their topic.

JUNE 23 - WRITING A RESEARCH PAPER

Students will learn how to write a research paper using the skills they learned in the previous workshop.

JUNE 25 - SCIENTIFIC METHOD

In this workshop, students will learn the different steps and processes they will need to take in order to complete a science project. This class will also encourage students to lessen their work time by using the correct procedures.

JUNE 28 - DATA ANALYSIS AND CONCLUSIONS

Students will learn about different types of graphs and how to sort their data. They will also learn how to convert data into graphs and how to write conclusions.

JUNE 30 - MAKING AN EFFECTIVE SCIENTIFIC POSTER

In this session, students will learn how to effectively convey their research on a poster board. This will include tips on how a scientific poster should be arranged, as well as how a student should present to judges in order to cover the necessary points while staying within the time limit.

JULY 2 - PRESENTATION SKILLS

Presentation skills are crucial, not only for science fairs, but also in all aspects of life. In this workshop, students will learn how to speak in front of judges or audiences with confidence and clarity.
