Competitions: Program

NC SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR

For the NC Science and Engineering Fair, students present scientific posters to judges. They are also required to write a research plan, and it is highly recommended to write a research paper. All elementary, middle, and high school students may participate in this competition. Middle school projects can be nominated for the Broadcom Masters National Competition, and the winners in the high school division advance to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.

Regional fairs typically take place in January or February depending on your region and the state fair takes place in late March at NC State University. Dates for the 2022 competition have not yet been announced but will be able to be found at http://ncsef.org/index.php/ncsef/nc-regional-fairs.

NC STUDENT ACADEMY OF SCIENCE

Students write research papers and present slideshow presentations for the NC Student Academy of Science Research Competition. NCSAS focuses on fostering interaction between student researchers and professional scientists and engineers. Students with the most distinguished projects have the opportunity to present their research at the American Junior Academy of Science Conference.

Regional fairs generally take place in January or February depending on your region and the state fair takes place in late March at the NC School of Science and Mathematics in Durham. You can learn more about the NC Student Academy of Science at ncsas.org.
